Cosmic Arts: Space Science and Painting

Cosmic Arts event image

This Saturday, June 29, from 10am-1pm, at Hollidaysburg Area Public Library, there will be an exciting program for all ages that blends space science and the arts.

A materials fee of $20 gets each participant professional instruction, all art supplies (that you get to keep), and a month-long showcasing of your art at the library.

Both grownups and school-aged children are welcome to participate. Recommended grades 4 and up.

The program is as follows:

  1. Enjoy snacks as we learn about deep space objects and stellar clusters from Dr. Lanika Ruzhitskaya, Director of Saint Francis University’s Science Outreach Center.
  2. Learn how to create beautiful paintings with art teacher Jennifer James Wagner.
  3. We proudly display your artwork at the Hollidaysburg Area Public Library!

Please reserve your space or direct any questions by email to melanie@halibrary.org. Please pay your materials fee at the class.

Note: This program is partially funded through a grant from PRAA and Pennsylvania Council on the Arts.

Extra Buddy the Dinosaur Visit Added

As part of the beginning of the Summer Learning Program yesterday, our visit from Buddy the Dinosaur was very well-attended, with over 166 participants! It was so well-attended, in fact, that some families didn’t get a chance to take a picture with Buddy. In light of this fact, we have added a 2nd session with Buddy next Monday, July 1, at 1:00 PM. Please see the list of Summer Learning Program events for this additional appearance.

Summer Learning Program 2019: A Universe of Stories

The 2019 Summer Reading Program at the Library has commenced! This year’s theme is “A Universe of Stories,” and there will be reading, movies, and activities for all ages—from preschoolers to young adults. Signups are available for cadets for this FREE program, which runs June 24–August 10.

Please see the link above for briefing materials about the programs for various age groups and a list of events to prepare for the mission. Don’t be left on the launchpad, sign up today for a summer of imagination and adventure!
