Friends of the Library Spring Book Sale

The Friends of the Hollidaysburg Area Public Library will be holding their spring book sale Thursday, April 20 through Saturday, April 22, with a preview night for Friends members on Wednesday, April 19.

Wednesday, April 19 (Friends Preview Sale–must be a member of the Friends to attend) — 6:00-7:30pm
Thursday, April 20 — 9:30am-7:30pm
Friday, April 21 — 9:30am-4:30pm
Saturday, April 22 (Bag Day! Fill a bag with books for $5!) — 9:30am-3:00pm

Not a member of the Friends, but want to attend the preview sale on April 19? Membership dues are $10 per year, and membership forms will be available to fill out at the book sale.

National Engineers Week

National Engineers Week is February 19-25, 2017. Engineers Week is dedicated to ensuring a diverse and well-educated future engineering workforce by increasing understanding of and interest in engineering and technology careers (EWeek website).

Join the Hollidaysburg Area Public Library by participating in Engineers Week from Wednesday, February 22 through Saturday, February 25. An activity and information table will be available in the Children’s Room for parents and their children to enjoy together, courtesy of the education outreach committee of Keller Engineers, Inc. Free Movie Showings!

Did you know that on one Friday night every month we have a free Movie Night in our Community Room?

This month, Movie Night is on Friday, February 10 at 6:00pm. We will be showing To Sir, with Love, the 1967 British drama starring Sidney Poitier. Everyone is welcome to attend, and we provide Movie Night snacks!

Join us for this classic movie! To enter the library for Movie Night, please use the Community Room doors, which will open at 5:45pm.

Free Ebooks and More!

On Wednesday, January 18 at 3:00pm, the library will be holding a class to teach library patrons how to take advantage of our OverDrive and Zinio services.

Learn how to access Overdrive to check out free ebooks and stream or download them to your digital device. In addition, get information on how to check out free digital magazines. No signup is needed, all are welcome. Bring your current Blair County library card and your digital device.

Cosmic Treats: Wind Power!

Join us for Cosmic Treats: Wind Power! on Thursday, December 15 at 6:00pm.

Wind energy is one of the fastest growing sources of electricity generation. Learn how wind power is used and how turbines are sited in Pennsylvania. During hands-on activities, audience members will generate electricity with model wind turbines to power motors, lights, and play music. The presenter is Michael Sell, Coordinator, Institute for Energy, Saint Francis University. No signup is needed, all ages are welcome. This free family science program is given in partnership with Dr. Lanika Ruzhitskaya, Director of Saint Francis University’s Science Outreach Center.
