Library Card Sign-up Month

Buzz Lightyear and the PA Library Association want you to know September is Library Card Sign-up Month!

September is Library Card Sign-up Month, and if you don’t yet have a library card, you’re missing out on a wealth of free resources available at the Library. Your library card is your passport to books, DVDs, audiobooks, eBooks, periodicals, children’s resources and more. And thanks to our integration with the other libraries in Blair County, you’re not limited to the collections at the Hollidaysburg Area Public Library—you can access and request materials from our partner libraries as well!

Should you need a little incentive to come in and request your key to a universe of knowledge from our friendly staff, if you sign up for a card at the Library in the month of September, you’ll get a Library button and a coupon for one free book from the Best of Friends Bookstore. So come on in and get a card for yourself, your son, your daughter, and the family dog!*

* Dogs are sadly not eligible for library cards. We got carried away.

Library Events Added for September

Did you know the Library has more than books, audio/visual, and digital resources? There are also events taking place every month almost every day of the week! Whether you have a child looking to participate in our many children’s activities, need help with some tech questions, or want to participate in one of our book clubs, there is always something going on.

Events have just been posted for September, and you can keep up to date on all of our upcoming activities on our events calendar. We also have printed calendars at the circulation desk, so stop in any time and check out what’s going on. We hope to see you at our next event!

Two New Ways to Support the Library this Month

Rockin' the Lot 2019 music and food festival event

On Saturday, July 27, from 3–8 pm, the Hollidaysburg Church of the Brethren will hold Rockin’ the Lot 2019, a music and food festival to benefit the Library. Admission and parking are free, and the event will be held at the church’s parking lot at 1028 Penn Street in Hollidaysburg. Proceeds will benefit the Library as part of the thisis.red Fundraising Project.

The Library is also holding a raffle for a gift basket with the shown collection of children’s books by local author & illustrator Jennifer Black Reinhardt. Tickets are $1 each and are available at the Library circulation desk. The drawing will be held Friday, August 9.

Cosmic Arts: Space Science and Painting

Cosmic Arts event image

This Saturday, June 29, from 10am-1pm, at Hollidaysburg Area Public Library, there will be an exciting program for all ages that blends space science and the arts.

A materials fee of $20 gets each participant professional instruction, all art supplies (that you get to keep), and a month-long showcasing of your art at the library.

Both grownups and school-aged children are welcome to participate. Recommended grades 4 and up.

The program is as follows:

  1. Enjoy snacks as we learn about deep space objects and stellar clusters from Dr. Lanika Ruzhitskaya, Director of Saint Francis University’s Science Outreach Center.
  2. Learn how to create beautiful paintings with art teacher Jennifer James Wagner.
  3. We proudly display your artwork at the Hollidaysburg Area Public Library!

Please reserve your space or direct any questions by email to melanie@halibrary.org. Please pay your materials fee at the class.

Note: This program is partially funded through a grant from PRAA and Pennsylvania Council on the Arts.
