March is here and there’s plenty going on at the Library!

First up, tonight (Thursday, 3/5) at 6 PM, Electrician Ron Ewing of IBEW Local 5 JATC will explain how interested men and women can become successful electricians through a proven, accredited process. Trades Talk: Earn While You Learn: Electrician!

Next, make sure to stop by next week on Tuesday, 3/10, at 6 PM for a presentation on leadership and collaboration by speaker Doug Hershey of Thought iQ: Introduction to the 5 Dysfunctions Of A Team.

Also next week on Thursday, 3/12, at 6 PM, Harriett Gaston of Penn State Altoona reviews the history of slavery, the Underground Railroad, and life for ex-slaves in Central Pennsylvania. Learn about Local History: Former Slaves Surviving and Thriving in Central PA.

Are you a card sharp or bingo aficionado? Want to help support the Library? Then come to Texas Hold ’em and Bingo Fundraiser (at Scott’s Arcade) on Saturday, 3/21. Proceeds will benefit the Library!

Finally, don’t forget that Daylight Savings Time starts this Sunday, 3/8 at 2:00 AM—remember to set your clocks back!

Question: What is the Library’s 2020 Wine, Trivia & More night?

Hear ye, hear ye! Back again next month (February), the Library will be hosting a night of Wine, Trivia & More at the American Legion Post 516 Social Hall in Legion Park, Hollidaysburg, on February 22 from 6 to 9 PM.

Like food, games, drink, and trivia? Then come to the Library to buy your tickets for this evening of fun now! Tickets are $25 per person and attendees must be at least 21 years of age. Only 144 tickets will be sold, so get yours as soon as possible. Simply show up at the Library and ask the front desk for more information, or call us at 814-695-5961.

Doors will open at 5:30 PM on the day of the event. Then, a dinner buffet will be served from 6 to 7 PM with desserts, wine, beer, and soft drinks, followed by a team trivia competition from 7 to 9 PM. There will also be a basket raffle, a door prize, and small games of chance throughout the night. We hope to see you there!

Used Book Sale

Fall in in the air once again—the air is getting crisper, leaves are changing colors, and it’s time once again for another Used Book Sale at the Library!

The Friends of the Hollidaysburg Area Public Library will hold a Used Book Sale from Wednesday, October 16, through Friday, October 18. Additionally, there will be a preview sale on Tuesday, October 15, for Friends members only. Not a member of the Friends of the Library? No problem—you can pay the dues of $10 if you wish to join!

The hours for the sale will be as follows:

Thu10/179:30 AM – 7:30 PM
$5 per bag after 5:30 PM
Fri10/189:30 AM – 3:00 PM
$5 per bag all day

All proceeds from the sale will benefit the Library. We greatly appreciate the support of our patrons!

Did you know the Library has more than books, audio/visual, and digital resources? There are also events taking place every month almost every day of the week! Whether you have a child looking to participate in our many children’s activities, need help with some tech questions, or want to participate in one of our book clubs, there is always something going on.

Events have just been posted for September, and you can keep up to date on all of our upcoming activities on our events calendar. We also have printed calendars at the circulation desk, so stop in any time and check out what’s going on. We hope to see you at our next event!

Two New Ways to Support the Library this Month

Rockin' the Lot 2019 music and food festival event

On Saturday, July 27, from 3–8 pm, the Hollidaysburg Church of the Brethren will hold Rockin’ the Lot 2019, a music and food festival to benefit the Library. Admission and parking are free, and the event will be held at the church’s parking lot at 1028 Penn Street in Hollidaysburg. Proceeds will benefit the Library as part of the thisis.red Fundraising Project.

The Library is also holding a raffle for a gift basket with the shown collection of children’s books by local author & illustrator Jennifer Black Reinhardt. Tickets are $1 each and are available at the Library circulation desk. The drawing will be held Friday, August 9.
